Density is determined by continuous density measurement utilizing online densitometers and the weighted-average reading obtained during the batch delivery for the gross standard volume calculation. Density results are then verified using API Manual of Petroleum Measurement Publications (MPMS), Chapter 9 Section 3 “Standard Test Method for Density, Relative Density, and API Gravity of Crude Petroleum and Liquid Petroleum Products by Thermohydrometer Method” for the net standard volume calculation.

Sulfur is determined by the use of a Horiba Sulfur-in-Oil Analyzer. This instrument uses Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence to determine total Sulfur in Petroleum products. ASTM method D4294 “Standard Test Method for Sulfur in Petroleum and Petroleum Products by Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry” is used. Note, this field lab test is conducted on an observed composite sample without water distillation.
