Density is determined by continuous density measurement utilizing online densitometers and the weighted-average reading obtained during the batch delivery for the gross standard volume calculation. Density results are then verified using API Manual of Petroleum Measurement Publications (MPMS), Chapter 9 Section 3 “Standard Test Method for Density, Relative Density, and API Gravity of Crude Petroleum and Liquid Petroleum Products by Thermohydrometer Method” for the net standard volume calculation.

Sulfur is determined by the use of a Horiba Sulfur-in-Oil Analyzer. This instrument uses Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence to determine total Sulfur in Petroleum products. ASTM method D4294 “Standard Test Method for Sulfur in Petroleum and Petroleum Products by Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry” is used. Note, this field lab test is conducted on an observed composite sample without water distillation.

"LOOP and Phillips 66 have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to safety and environmental stewardship, serving as shining examples for an industry that is committed to the continuous advancement of safety," API President and CEO Mike Sommers said. "Our industry’s dedication to cultivating a strong safety culture is one of many reasons why pipelines are the safest and most environmentally friendly way of transporting the resources needed to power our modern lives.

"LOOP will be celebrating its 40th year of service to our nation’s energy producers and consumers next month," said Terry Coleman, president of LOOP LLC. "The company and its contractors continued the multi-year journey to fully implement the Pipeline Safety Management System that promotes a culture of safety, sharing and learning through peer and community engagement. Inspired by the SMS and working closely with agency partners including the United States Coast Guard and the State of Louisiana; the company operations resulted to zero negative outcomes for People, Pipe and Planet."
