LOOP Sour Quality Message

By Public Information Officer

For the month of March 2018 LOOP has delivered over 1,180,000 barrels of LOOP Sour Crude Oil from LOOP Sour Storage. The chart below shows the quality characteristics of LOOP Sour Crude Oil deliveries to connecting carrier pipelines for the month of March 2018.  The utilization rate of the CACs for the month of March was 67%.

  API Gravity Sulfur (%)
Max 30.0 3.03
Volumetric Avg. 29.7 2.69
Min 29.2 2.25

LOOP will be issuing similar reports on a monthly basis. Please check loopllc.com for updates.

Density is determined by continuous density measurement utilizing online densitometers and the weighted-average reading obtained during the batch delivery for the gross standard volume calculation. Density results are then verified using API Manual of Petroleum Measurement Publications (MPMS), Chapter 9 Section 3 “Standard Test Method for Density, Relative Density, and API Gravity of Crude Petroleum and Liquid Petroleum Products by Thermohydrometer Method” for the net standard volume calculation.

Sulfur is determined by the use of a Horiba Sulfur-in-Oil Analyzer. This instrument uses Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence to determine total Sulfur in Petroleum products. ASTM method D4294 “Standard Test Method for Sulfur in Petroleum and Petroleum Products by Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry” is used. Note, this field lab test is conducted on an observed composite sample without water distillation.

Clovelly Hub 6 Month Capacity Outlook

By Public Information Officer

April 1, 2018

LOOP tracks the amount of capacity in service at the Clovelly Hub monthly.  A six month capacity forecast follows in the table below.

LOOP performs rigorous maintenance, inspection and testing of its facilities, including its above ground tankage and underground caverns.  At specified intervals, these activities require LOOP to remove assets from active service, thus reducing capacity. Those maintenance and construction activities are just a fraction of the work performed, within the LOOP Safety Management System framework, to continually improve the operation.

LOOP Clovelly Hub 6 Month Capacity Outlook
2018 Total Above Ground Capacity Underground Capacity
April 87% 90% 87%
May 98% 90% 87%
June 98% 90% 100%
July 87% 90% 87%
August 87% 90% 87%
September 87% 90% 87%

LOOP VLCC Loading Update

By Public Information Officer

Covington, Louisiana, March 27, 2018

In response to multiple inquiries; LOOP LLC confirms that it has successfully completed the second Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) crude oil loading operation at its deepwater port, located 18 miles offshore of Port Fourchon, La.  The vessel was fully loaded and sailed in March 2018.

LOOP is the only U.S. Port capable of fully loading a VLCC, which helps optimize America’s energy supply chain by enabling inbound vessels delivering foreign crude oil to leave LOOP with U.S. crude oil, rather than returning empty.

LOOP, which has successfully offloaded more than 10,200 crude oil vessels since commencing operations in 1981, is currently preparing its 2018 shipping schedule, which is scalable based on market demand.

LOOP LLC has successfully completed the first Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) crude oil loading operation

By Public Information Officer

LOOP LLC has successfully completed the first Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) crude oil loading operation at its Deepwater Port, 18 miles offshore of Port Fourchon, La.

“We are pleased to offer the enhanced capability to safely and efficiently load the largest cargo vessels in the world with crude oil for export,” said Tom Shaw, LOOP president. “There could not be a better time to offer this service as domestic production surpasses 10 million barrels per day in the ever dynamic global crude oil market.”

LOOP is the only U.S. Port capable of fully loading a VLCC, which helps optimize America’s energy supply chain by enabling inbound vessels delivering foreign crude oil to leave LOOP with U.S. crude oil, rather than returning empty.

“The new onloading configuration was accomplished with only minor modifications to existing facilities and is scalable to meet the changing needs of the industry,” Shaw added.

Houston-based Shell Trading Company US (STUSCO) was the shipper of record for this historic cargo.  LOOP, which has successfully offloaded more than 10,200 crude oil vessels since commencing operations in 1981, is currently preparing its 2018 shipping schedule.
